Discontentment - Is It Bugging You?

Are you contented with what you have? Almost all of us being human always strive for better opportunities in life, looking for better jobs, aiming for the best things in life and resting our eyes on other blessings. But did we count our blessings these days? Did you wake up feeling rested after a night’s sleep in a nice clean house? Have you eaten three meals or more a day? Do you have enough clothes to wear? These are simple things but meant a lot to some people who were deprived of food, water, clothes and shelter.

If you have these things in your life and you’re not contented maybe I could give you some tips. Don't compare yourself to others because it will only lead to discontent. There were more people better than you but you just don’t know their problems. Be grateful for what you have and what you are, stop thinking ‘When I’m like this or that Then I’ll be happy’. Stop dreaming to be someone else because you are unique, God created you to be like nobody else. For all you know you’re a much better person than the one you envy. See the birds in the sky not worrying about what to eat and where to rest! They know God will take care of them.

Look around you and you’ll see the wonderful blessings God has given you, focus on far more important blessings such as our family and friends. I wouldn’t exchange them for material things in this world. Give yourself to others, share your blessings, knowledge, and talent and help them in any way you can. Why? Because God wanted us to serve and help others and until we do that, we will feel great discontent. I remember my father saying to me when I was a child that if you want to help a person don’t just lend him money but give him a job or recommend him to someone who will give him job because in doing so you also help him support his family. He’s a government official for many years and the people he helped during his time told me that they could never forget his kindness.

Last but not the least focus on things with eternal value and think about the things in your life, what things are most important in your life? Where - and with whom - should you invest your most time and energy? By reorganizing your life around eternal priorities, you will find yourself growing in contentment, as you live according to God's design and purpose.

"I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want." (Philippians 4:12)
