3 Social Elements of the Environmental Movement

The beginning of the modern environmental movement has often been associated with the publication of “Silent Spring” by Rachel Carson in 1962. The book highlighted the dangers of uncontrolled pesticide use. Disasters during that decade, like the Lake Erie Fire in 1969, galvanized public outrage into activism. Subsequent pressure on the government produced legislation like the Clean Air Act of 1970 and the Clean Water Act of 1972. Earth Day, nationally celebrated for the first time on April 22, 1970, helped catapult environmentalism to the national stage. Collectively, these events helped bring resources and attention to the task of protecting the biosphere.
Some outcomes from these efforts are evident today. Academic pursuits, political initiatives and grassroots activism, all centered on environmental issues are significant elements of society.

Environmentalism in Education

The environmental process engineering field of study has expanded beyond traditional roles like wastewater treatment to include planning for consumer product lifecycle sustainability. Engineers in this specialty routinely evaluate business initiatives to project and reduce impacts on the environment. They also propose alternative methods and techniques to minimize the carbon footprint of industrial processes.

Environmentalism in Politics

Established in 1970, the Environmental Protection Agency has grown and been granted a regulatory role. EPA regulations affect practically all human activities that might damage natural resources. Laws such as the Clean Air Act are regularly reviewed and adjusted to factor in the, formerly unaccounted for, value of resources.

Environmentalism in Culture

Activist organizations like the Environmental Defense Fund propose projects and raise funds to reverse past damages due to inadequate oversight. They also draw attention to activities they perceive as threats to natural resources and lobby the government for better laws.
From humble beginnings as a response to grievous pollution and disregard for natural resources, environmentalism has flourished. Regulations enabled by law have helped curb the abuse of natural resources. Universities are educating sharp young minds to address increasingly complex, interrelated environmental problems. Activism plays an important watchdog role, publicizing relevant issues and raising funds for important initiatives. These accomplishments and others indicate that this movement will likely continue to thrive ensuring conservation and protection of the environment into the future.

Clean Environment Inside and Out

Last few weeks there’s a call from our community workers to help them clean the span of our barangay to prevent common diseases from occurring in our places. We’re located in the national road thus the workers always maintain the clean environment in our place because as they say we’re at the road leading to our municipality. Anyone who goes to municipality would have to pass our barangay first before they reach their destination. We didn’t encounter any problem in garbage disposal because they’re collected daily at dawn. As such we’re reminded that we should not only clean the exterior part of the house but the interior as well to make sure that we’re free from elements and germs that can cause us to get sick.

This is true because even in the safety of our homes we cannot prevent our bodies from contacting diseases caused by dust, germs and other elements that contaminate fresh air. Maintaining the purity of the air we breathe should be controlled by air purifiers such as Rabbit Air which purifies the air inside our house by removing the common elements that pollutes the air. They offer purifier with HEPA filter which guarantees good filter capacity of airborne particles such as dust, allergens and remove bad odors from mildew and mold, cigars and some other chemicals. Having this kind of air purifier in our house would reduce the occurrence of getting air-borne diseases in the future.

Data Privacy and Security Liability

With the influx of high technology and modern innovations more companies now are having their office procedures and work flow systematized for better output and fast transactions. Well high technology has its advantages and disadvantages as well because when all the systems are in network control there are more possibilities of lost of data and hacking. I’ve read some facts about breach incidents that can be ascribed to lost media, storage devices and laptops. There are plenty of incidents of accidental data posting or losing data because the laptop is stolen.

With all these incidents data security is at stake and in danger because those data lost can be sold to companies that need client names, social security number and other important information. Thus complete Data Privacy and Security Liability  insurance is certainly needed to assure protection of such data. It covers liability arising out of unauthorized access to confidential 3rd party data including theft, loss of paper records, data breach loss and a lot more. Beacon Hill provides all these protection with other coverage for Pollution Insurance, Site Pollution, Environmental Contractors Insurance and Premises Pollution Insurance. They have packaged insurance coverage for environmental contractors and consultants. Beacon Hill works with the famous carriers in the business and has been an established leader in providing wholesale access to environmental insurance markets.

Lax in Observing Rules and Warnings

I always notice something when we’re filling up our gas tank every Sunday. I’ve observed that the gasoline station personnel is not so strict about the use of cellular phones and those people who have their cigarette sticks while on the premises of the station. I think it’s only here that people are lax about following hazard signs such as the ones I’ve mentioned. For me it’s best if we will implement the rules strictly to avoid accidents or have attractive osha signs which can catch the attention of the public. It should create awareness of the dangers of evading the simple rules and hazard warning. I just can’t help feeling bad that people doesn’t learn their lessons until they’ve experienced being victimized by accidents.

The Sudden Flood That Hit Our Town

Electricity has just resumed today so it's only now that I've uploaded my shots of the storm that caused big floods all over Metro Manila and nearby provinces. I was left in the house with 3 kids and my 77-year old Mom. My sister and husband went to work and on the sudden flood that rise up suddenly within an hour I told them not to go home as it's not safe on the road anymore.

Our place never experienced a flood like this one as far as I can remember since I was born. Luckily with the help of my brother who rushed to our house in the morning and my neighbour we were able to secure our appliances to a higher level. All important documents and clothes in our first floor room were transferred to upper floor. I stopped rescuing things when the water is up to my neck. When I finally stopped at the upper floor I had the chance to take some shots of the flood which was amazingly risen up so fast our steel gate and car was submerged.
The shots below were taken on the second day when the waters were slowly subsiding:

Early rounding up of Media
Rescue operations by boat and trucks
Stranded people walked through flood to finally get back to their homesSari-store opened and the people rushed to buy food, drinks and candles
