She's Out of Danger

I'm so glad that Ruth's fever has finally dropped down and she's free from the danger of dengue fever. She got sick last Thursday after school and we had her CBC and platelet Count tested at the laboratory yesterday. It was a weekend that sent DH, Ruth and I to the municipality hospital and was surprised to find the hospital full of patients. I learned also that the prevailing sickness these days are broncho pneumonia and dengue. Ruth's lab tests are good and her rashes and fever were all due to viral infection. Now she's just recuperating and I hope she'll make it tomorrow to school. I'll let her rest today.

Extra Energy to Beat the Sun’s Heat

The sun’s heat starting at 10 in the morning up to 3 in the afternoon is not conducive to healthy well-being. If you’re out in the sun within these hours you’ll feel the heat on your face that will drain most of your energy. I think only those who are taking energy drinks and hgh releasers will survive the sun’s harmful effects. It was known to increase energy and revitalizes as well.

Had I known that our morning errands would do harm we wouldn’t give in to our food cravings. My little boy accompanied me when I went out past ten in the morning the other day. We walked to meat store, rice cake store, bakery and fruit stand for our regular supply of fibrous fruits. Josh complained of his stomach and immediately I surmised that the heat affected him. It was yesterday when he felt the stomach pain that resulted from over exposure to sun. Yes the heat can make your stomach cringe, can make your blood pressure rise up and it can make you suffer from the usual skin diseases prevalent every summer. I promised myself to find time to do my errands earlier as I’m beginning to develop headache when I go out at lunch time.

More of the Wonders of Bananas!

glitter-graphics.com

There's just so much you have to know about this wonder fruit which is also the common fruit among Filipino household that sometimes I've been wondering why it's not been voted as the Philippine fruit :-) Almost 99% of Filipinos love this fruit which has many varieties such as Lakatan, Latundan, Señorita and some others. They also differ in colors. There's also the Saba variety which is the common snack here in the country which when cooked can give you different delicious recipes and forms like Turon, Banana-Q, Saba con Hielo, Saba Fritters, Maruya, Sweetened Saba in Sauce.

Here are additional uses of this wonder banana:

Overweight and at work?
Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers:
The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: For The Ladies
Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD):
Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking:
Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress:
Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes:
According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine," eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

So, bananas are really a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around.

So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

Wonder Banana!

After Reading THIS, you'll NEVER look at a banana in the same way again!

Bananas Containing three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber, a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression:
According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: For The Ladies
Forget the pills -- eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia:
High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure:
This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect way to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power:
200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert..

Constipation: For The Ladies
High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers:
One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn:
Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: For The Ladies
Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites:
Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves:
Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Seems like this wonderful fruit which is very common in every Filipinos' table has a lot to contribute in our health chart and so I'll be posting another for more!

Nursing My Kids

Due to unexpected cooler temperature here in Manila most of the children now either have a cold or cough and my kids caught the same virus too. Since the classes began again yesterday Gen and Josh wasn’t able to report to school because they both have fever, cough and colds. Poor little kids they didn’t escaped the ongoing sickness roaming all over the community. As this is my critical week in my office work I reported to office middle of the day and returned home before 5pm just to finish some urgent billing.

Today I took the day off to nurse my kids and also my mom who recently caught the virus too. I think it’s harder on her part as she’s slow in recovery. It’s really good that I decided not to come to my work as they really need my utmost care and attention. As I’m writing this post my kids’ fever has gone out, just recovering from cough and they told me they’re ready for tomorrow’s school. Thank God!

I'm Sick!

I was so sick yesterday at the office and the whole day today, had colds, chill all over my body and just can’t stay at my PC for a long time, makes my head swell. I was just wondering why I got sick when I had a complete sleeping hours for four days now, is my body adapted to my 3-hour sleeping that when I’ve finally slowed down on my bad sleeping habits my body didn’t recognized it, weird! Well I had a body massage twice last night and this morning by my ever loving mom and I think that contributed a lot to my speedy recovery.

Hope I’ll be able to work tomorrow as I’ve lots of things to do not to mention that I also have to check on the industrial clamps that my boss is asking me about. I still don’t know what he is trying to do with it but I’ll search on it anyway. For now I’ll just rest and pray that I’ll be fully recovered tomorrow so I can go on with my regular chores and office works.

It’s Not Right To Be Sick

Yesterday as I accompanied my daughter in her school activities I wasn’t prepared for the effect of the scorching heat that we caught on our way back home. I can’t leave my daughter to her teacher and the group to bring her home; I was also thinking that they will bring back to their home school which is few kilometers from the house. Since I can’t convince Ruth to go home earlier I just stayed the whole morning until lunchtime until the group finally went home.

We reached our house lunchtime and my two younger kids said that they missed me a lot when I was away with their sister. You know Saturday is a special day for them aside from Sunday because it’s our bonding moments. When I set everything up for their lunch I just stayed a little while in my PC to check on snowmobile exhaust that my brother was asking me to canvass then I sleep and rest. It was a bad rest as I felt difficulty in breathing, I just lay there trying to sleep but can’t relax due to abnormal breathing. A cousin told me that the heat stroked me badly and I tried to fight the ill feeling. I decided to stop resting and took a cold shower that normalizes my body temperature and began to breathe normally.

For two weeks I’ve been sleeping badly meaning sleeping late and waking up very early so this can be the cause for what I encountered so I promised myself that I will take some break or else I will not be able to take care of my kids and so on…. As the commercial of one multivitamin say ‘it’s not right to be sick’.

Ruth Is Sick!

I woke up at dawn hearing Ruth’s silent murmur and I thought I was only dreaming. As all my kids sleeps beside me I can easily check what’s troubling them at night. I was surprised when I touched her because she’s so hot and she’s having a dream calling my name. I wake her up and asked what she wants me to do. This daughter of mine has a very strong resistance to sickness compared to her other siblings. She seldom gets sick but when she does you should really ask her about it because she has a tendency not to speak much about it.

I cooked her requested oatmeal immediately and served her a plate of rice with ham and egg. She still eats even when she’s feeling bad and I feel happy about it. Since I can’t take a day off my work because I’m going to finalize and check the payroll I set everything she needs and turned over to my mother her medicine, bought all her requested food and kissed her. She’s a big girl now so she’s ok as long as her granny is with her. Mom massaged her and let her take some rest and sleep the whole morning, I just keep on sending them text messages and just now I called her. She’s feeling a lot better now, thanks to God!
