Selecting the Best Fit For Your Little One’s Education

As your little one gets ready to take on their first true educational experiences in preschool and kindergarten, it is important to find the right fit. As you look at different types of schools, with some research, you will be sure to find the right one for your little one.

Types of Schools

It is important to understand that not all schools are created the same. This is why you must do your research. An accredited montessori schools Redmond WA will likely have a very different approach and philosophy than a Waldorf or public school.

Knowing Which Type is Right For You

As you begin to decipher which type of school is the best fit, it is important to evaluate your and your child’s needs. The school’s approach to child development, discipline and exploration should all align with your home life and personal philosophy. If you pick a lofty choice for the prestige alone, you are likely to have an ill-fitted match in the end.

Areas to Observe

As you look to select the best fit, schools will often present their best foot forward during presentations and visits. While they are there to support your child, they are often still functioning as businesses and need attendees to fund programs. As you assess the school during your visit, be observant of important areas that can give you a true sense of the fit and a true impression.

Additional Offerings

Selecting a school can be a big commitment, so make sure to take the time to evaluate all areas of the school. If they offer before and after programs, extracurricular opportunities and community engagement, these are all influential factors to pay attention to.

It is important to pick a preschool that best fits their and your needs while also challenging them and teaching them necessary skills, values and knowledge will set them up for the future. With this well-considered choice, you can know they are off to a successful start.

Easing the Transition From Home to College

Heading off to college is the beginning of a new phase of a teenager’s journey through life. Many teens see this as a step up on the maturity level. They may think that the term homesick isn’t in alignment with their more mature phase of life, yet once they arrive at college they realize the transition separates them from some familiarities that they are sure to miss. Periodically sending a gift basket to your teen can make the transition from home to college less stressful.

Arriving at a New Place

The first few weeks of living away from home can be emotionally difficult for your teenager. While you want to make the adjustment period easier for them, you don’t want to embarrass them with overly sentimental gifts. Typically, a gift of food is something that almost anyone would be pleased with. Candy gift baskets are an ideal way to brighten the day for your college kid. Not only will they be delighted to receive some of their favorite candy, sharing the candy with some newly-made friends can help with the bonding process.

Keeping a Connection to Home

When kids are away at college, they miss out on some of the family traditions. If one of your traditions was to enjoy the game on the big screen TV at home or if you had a designated family movie night, your teen might feel a twinge of sadness when they realize they’re missing out on that family togetherness. To retain that feeling of connectedness with them, you might want to encourage them to plan a game night or movie night with friends and surprise them with a basket filled with chips, candy and cookies for all them to share and enjoy. A custom snack basket that contains items you typically had at home will have special significance for your teen.

Easing Stress

College life can be stressful, especially at exam time. The arrival of a perky, colorful flower, pet or sports theme cookie bouquet can lessen the tension of study time. Munching on cookies can make studying a more pleasant experience.

Whether you call it homesickness or transition stress, college life is a change for teens. Food baskets have a way of easing some of the emotional pressure that is simply a part of the maturing process.

How to Create an At-Home Library

If you love to read, you may have always dreamed of having your very own library at home. What’s better than a special place to store, browse, and delve into your favorite books? Read on for tips to help you create a book oasis in your own home.

1. Pick the location, preferably one that doesn’t get a lot of foot traffic. You should also choose a room that has doors so you can completely close off from the rest of the world!

2. Assess the number of books you have to determine how much shelving space you’ll need. If you have a ton of books that you plan on keeping, floor-to-ceiling shelves may be the best option. If you prefer to use an e-reader, you may only need a few free-standing shelving units.

3. Invest in great library furniture! The more space you have, the more library essentials you can add.

4. If you have a dining room that you never use, consider turning it into a library. Place comfy seating around the perimeter and add a throw rug to make the space more homey.

5. A large closet or unused hallway are ideal spaces for a library, especially if live in a small apartment or house!

Don’t let technology dissuade you - there are many reasons to have your own home library. Even if you prefer to read online, there’s nothing wrong with doing it in your own quiet space!

Value of Finishing Your Studies

Seeing the students flocking the streets along the road makes me smile to myself and feel glad that these kids are lucky that they can still go to school and learn what they need to know. I’ve heard news that many students will not be able to go to school because of financial problems. Their parents do not have means of earning a living to support them. They even lack food and basic necessities so education would have to be just a dream for them. Well it’s a sad thought because I was thinking what will happen to them when they grow old. If only they would be able to study it will be their bridge to alleviate their status in life.

Going to school and finishing a course be it a degree or specialized studies will be an asset to anyone because it will be your credential to landing a good job. In today’s view of the educators ladderized program is a feasible solution to those who don’t have enough money to sustain college degree education. It’s the same with studying in some technical or beauty school where you’re geared to the course that you love. You may take up specialized studies on hair, skin or any other beauty services if you’re inclined to those areas.

If you’re living in Texas you might as well enroll in Copperwood cosmetology school where training is comprehensive and facilities are fully equipped. They know how to do the training so you could be an impressive asset to any salon that you will apply to. They will make sure that your skills will be honed through series of on-the-job training on real beauty services making you feel you’re always doing beauty workshop and rehearsals.

Pursuing Another Career

My former office mate resigned from her job and joined her family in America. She’s very happy when her papers were finally settled because her parents and siblings are all residing in that country. They’ve waited for her for so long because she had to arrange the papers of her son also. She didn’t want to leave him and her husband so the waiting became years. Anyway all the waiting is worth as she’s now happily settled with all of her family now.

She’s not working now but planning to pursue another career completely different from her degree here in the Philippines. She’s thinking of studying in Arlington beauty school so she can put up a new business in that field as well. I hope all her dreams will come to reality so she’ll feel fulfilled also. She’s not used to staying in the house and doing no work at all so she’ll be starting on her plans this coming school opening.

School Dropping By

It’s the last day of having my kids’ full time at home because they’ll be studying again for 10 months straight now with the opening of classes on Monday. Anyway we’ll all be outside our base home whole day as I’m also back in the office works again full time since last month. I’ll be missing the times that I will be going to my little boy’s school to check if he’s eating all his food at lunch. He likes me dropping by his school at lunch breaks but he loves it more when I’m there at the waiting area when it’s time for him to go home. Well he’s on his second grade and I know parents are allowed lesser visits in school at that grade so it’s fine for both of us but on Monday I’ll be with him to look for his section and room.

Her Preferred Field of Study

My friend’s daughter is really interested in learning beauty science and all about hair, skin, face and everything that includes care and maintenance of beauty. She doesn’t want to take any course in college pertaining to medicine, engineering, IT or any other career available. She wants to concentrate on her particular field of interest and because my friend is kind of worried that it’s just her daughter’s hobby or whim this time she consulted other elder family members. Well she was told that if it’s really what the daughter wants they might as well grant her what she wants to pursue in life.

They’re now looking through some good schools like Cosmetology school because with schools like Regency Institute campuses they’re assured that her daughter would get the right training, quality education and exposure to unique approach in studying. With the right kind of school she can learn the beauty business from A to Z and in no time at all she can have her own.

Good Performance in School

I'm happy to see my kids' school class cards because all of them got very good grades, the 2 younger kids made it to top 5. My little boy's teacher talked to me about his outstanding performance and she said she would recommend him for the pilot section. He didn't study there in preparatory school so when he enrolled last June he was considered a transfer and cannot be included in the pilot class. Last July he was picked together with other 2 classmates to be transferred but I talked to the teacher that we would prefer it that he stays with his current class because he had made friends already and he’ll be adjusting again.

The transfer didn’t happen even for the other two but the teacher told me last distribution of cards that if he’ll be consistent he’ll be in the cream or pilot section next year. Anyway pilot section or not I’m happy with the school policy and quality teaching so I’m not that particular with sections. For Josh it’s a challenge again if he’ll be in the pilot because he wants to have a medal again just like in his three years in preparatory school. He’s really competitive just like Ate Gen.

Little Boy's Practice in School

I thought I will be able to wake up early as DH already finished his ROTC but the little boy has his practice for their field demo.  DH went out early to look for red metallic foil that they will need for the practice.  He then brought it to the little boy's school to submit.  I was glad that after 3 hours Josh arrived home and we began arranging things in the house.  We always do that on weekends and it's also a kind of training for the kids.  We let them tidy their own cabinets and clean their bags except for the little boy who needs help with his big bag.

We had an early lunch and after that we let them play in PC for scheduled hours.  We want them to enjoy weekends but we don't let them decide how many hours will they be playing because they will form a habit and that will not do them good.  They should know that playing online games has restrictions and schedules.  They should also learn to play other games outside the computer.

Ways on Attaining Goals

I learned from my friend in the province that her son has been awarded a scholarship grant to a good business school in the city. She was elated from the news and teary-eyed at the idea that her son would be able to fulfil his dreams after his graduation. I know the feeling of passing a scholarship exam because my brother was given the chance of having scholarship grants on his college education.

How my cousin would love to have a free education like that especially on the course she wanted to pursue throughout these years. She wanted to enroll in one of most prestigious schools for beauty like Regency Beauty Institute so she can have expertise on all aspects of maintaining and improving beauty. Hope she’ll find one for herself so she’ll be able to attain her goal and fulfill her dreams.

:Thursday Challenge : School

"SCHOOL" (Buildings, Children, Uniforms, Buses, Bicycles, Books, Pens and Pencils,..)

These are my kids' school things - notebooks, pens, pencils, bags and other accessories bought from the book store last May for the school opening last June of this year.  Children get very excited when it comes to shopping for their school things.  Since my kids are big enough to have their own choices I let them pick what they want.  I only guide my little boy because he's just a first grader now but I know when he grows old he would be able to get and choose his school things.  Btw the bag is my choice and Josh loves it!

Little Boy's Fave Cousin is Ok Now

My little boy is sad that his cousin classmate Matthew, my brother’s youngest kid was again absent today and got some stomach pain again. He’s out of danger and negative of other prevailing sickness but still in medication so he’s resting for awhile. Josh missed seating with him on their service car and their fun antics on the way home. They’re inseparables and when one is not present they missed each other. Kuya and SIL were here to copy notes and lessons from Josh and told us that Matt is ok now but will go to school on Monday to have a complete rest.

Missing Prep Friends

Josh is a very friendly and charming boy and in the first weeks in his new school he has many friends already and I've seen how happy he is despite missing his close friends in Preparatory. That's their picture while they're having a Christmas party outside. They sneaked inside their room and played with their prizes after they've won a game. See how close and how funny they are.

Actually Mark is the most behaved among the three and he turned out to be their class valedictorian while Josh got the Salutatorian place. Marcus is studying near Josh' school while Mark is in school very far from them. Hope they'll meet again despite the distance because Josh truly miss his friends esp. these two.

Spending More Time with Family

I had a chat with some of the parents when I accompanied my little boy in his first week of schooling. We were talking about how important it is to monitor the child’s everyday activities in school and in home. With the current trends in kids’ hobbies which were mostly cantered in various internet social networks and games parents should set rules on when they should be online and how long they be allowed to use it. Some parents who don’t have the time to monitor usually have their kids addicted to games which can result in lesser attention in school home and school works.

It’s just so nice to be having a discussion like this and not be guilty about the time you’re giving to your kids. Yes I was a guilty one when it comes to quantity of time given when I still in corporate office but now I dedicate my time to my family. I’m happy that even if I don’t have much savings I was able to quit my job and work in the convenience of my home. Some of my friends also managed to resign from their jobs and concentrate on taking care of their kids. Some of them want to buy gold coins so they can have something to look forward to in terms of profit returns. Well they’re still thinking carefully about it as investment should be planned and carefully thought of. Any way gold is a sure investment for me so I told me to go for it.

Preparing School Requirements

It’s school time once again and parents are busy with school requirements and parents’ orientation these days. For now I’m preparing my little boy’s grooming kit to be placed in their locker cabinet for their whole year usage. It contains soap, face towel, toothbrush, toothpaste, alcohol, baby powder, cologne, comb and extra clothes in case they need to change their clothes.

As of this day Josh is still excited about his everyday activities in school. Since he’s in new school everything is exciting for him. I just wish his feeling would last for months. I’m thinking now if I would need costumes for him in the coming school activities come October because in his last three years he always wear his costumes for their Halloween costume party. Anyway we’ve browsed through some sites for nice costumes and I’ve found this Harry Potter outfit. Josh like it.

Maximize Your Potential and Skills

Few days from now I’ll be very busy again with preparing my kids’ school things and in attending school activities. Maybe not that busy with school functions as that of last year as my eldest entered secondary school now. I’ll be busy with my primary students because they require a lot of parents’ meeting and interaction with school teachers and officials. I’m always one of the officers in school and that consumes my time more. Anyway it’s fine with me as long as I can manage my time well because when I’m active in school I get to monitor my kids also.

Now all of my three kids are enrolled in three different schools and I’m seeing myself juggling my time in different schools, my household chores and my online works. I don’t have to worry much as DH helps me with the kids. He’s so patient with teaching and helping them with their assignments. He also helps me with some of the house works so I guess I’ll still have time to work online. In few years time my two girls will have to research college degrees of their chosen field and as early as now we’re guiding them on how they will be able to know what their potentials are. I told them that they should choose the one that they really want to do when they work so they will also enjoy studying.

For those who are still in the searching process they can visit CollegeDegreesToday and choose from among their list of online and campus-based schools where they can search also for the list of degree or courses available. A degree in college is very essential in getting a good-paying job and it’s a plus also in your credentials.

Excited for the School Opening

My kids are but not me lol! Back to school in the next few days and back to waking up at 4am to cook and prepare the kids’ stuff. They’re all excited for this coming school year since we’ve shopped for their bags and other school things middle of May. I don’t like rushing and buying all this necessities in June as I know there are plenty of late shoppers as well. When we bought all our kids’ school things we have the time to shop conveniently and with all the kids’ preferred items in full stock.

The little boy is entering the big school this year as Grade 1 and my eldest will soon be a high school freshman. She had the feel of her school and liked it when she had her summer advance class for more than 3 weeks. My youngest girl will be in her last grade in primary and hoping to achieve her goal to climb the stage on her graduation. This little girl really has a lot of perseverance and wants to be on the top always.

Anyway they’re all the best of their potentials last year and I told them to mix their hard work with lots of prayers to God to give them guidance and wisdom on their studies. I believe that studying and learning can be done and honors achieved through hard work which some says ‘burning of eyebrows’ (pagsusunog ng kilay). With the help of God and us I know my kids will achieve their goals and dreams up to when they will eventually choose their own field of studies and career.

Best Job I’ve Ever Had

Because of the successive graduation and recognition ceremonies for all our three kids we have tons of pictures ready for color printing now and I’m trying to sort out almost duplicate pictures to save funds. I’m happy that all school activities were finished and I was able to get their clearances and class cards yesterday. I’m completing all requirements of my eldest and youngest kid for their entrance in primary and secondary school. I’ve just completed them all and secured NSO certificates so I’m just waiting for our salaries to enroll our eldest earlier so I can concentrate on the other two.

Online job is a good source of income but it’s not a stable one unlike the pay you have when you’re employed so you have to practice wise planning and budgeting. If you have a good income these days you have to save money for the times when work is not overflowing. But I must say being a work-at-home Mom is the best job I’ve ever had.

CCS Golden Jubilee-50th Alumni Homecoming

This is a late post as we've attended our 50th alumni homecoming last Feb. 26. We were like high school again and our batch was the noisiest (just like in our HS days). Imagine we're done with our dinner even before the others has started their own lol! The host batch' speaker describe our batch as having a birthday party as we're the only batch with balloons and cake. We're just happy to see each other again and we've agreed to bring different foods. We have enough foods for three batches and we're able to give some to others.

What caught my interest was the video of successive school years since '60s featuring each generation's uniforms, batch of teachers and some class pictures. Our school has changed a lot from the time it started up to now that it has become not just an elem-high school but a college as well. I missed my teachers who were not there and Ms. Rosas who passed away already last year.

School Inquiries for Ruth

I visited TUMCS this afternoon to inquire about the requirements needed to apply for entrance exam for Ruth’s secondary education. I dropped by Jen’s internet café before going to school because I’ve never been there before. Bes’ café is near the corner of the road leading to school so I asked for directions. The school is only a walking distance but since I’m not familiar with the school I hired a trike to go there which I think is only two minutes traveling time. I entered the Guidance’ office and they quickly gave me recommendation form which will be filled up confidentially by Ruth’s current class adviser. The other form contains some info about our family. I’ll return the forms on Friday so Ruth can be evaluated before the examination date.
