How to Use Patchouli Oil at Home

Every time that you log into Facebook, you probably see a few friends or family members selling products from home. There are those who sell things like Tupperware or Mary Kay and those who sell products designed to help you get in shape and lose those extra pounds. Some companies even let workers talk about the benefits of essential oils and sell those oils from home. One of the more popular scents that you can buy online or from your friends is patchouli oil, but you'll want to find out how to use that oil at home before you buy.

As a Healing Agent

Though patchouli became a popular scent in the 1960s and 1970s in America, other cultures used the oil for centuries. One common use for the oil was as a healing agent. The oil can help you recover faster from injuries. The next time that you scrape your knee, stub your toe or accidentally cut yourself while cooking, carefully clean the wound as you normally would. Apply a few drops of patchouli oil to the injured area with a cotton ball before covering with a clean bandage. Use a few more drops every day.

As a Hair Treatment

Using patchouli oil can give you those gorgeous tresses that you always wanted too. Mix one teaspoon to one tablespoon of the oil with both your shampoo and conditioner. Shake the bottle gently each time you jump in the shower to thoroughly combine the oil with the product. Massage a healthy dollop of the shampoo into your hair, let the mixture sit for up to three minutes and then rinse. You can also mix a few drops of essential oil right into the shampoo or conditioner in your palm before showering.

As an Odor Eliminator

Patchouli essential oils also work well as an odor eliminator. Place a few drops of the oil in a diffuser to let the rich scent permeate the whole room. Many companies make clay rings that sit right on top of your light bulbs. Place a few drops of the oil on one of those rings before turning on the light. As the bulb heats up, it will slowly release the bold scent and mask any odors in your home. Use patchouli oil in a number of ways, including as an odor eliminator, hair treatment or healing agent.
