A Walk With A Friend

Mixed emotions as they say, happy but sad. Always heard this to some conversation and felt this when my close friend for nearly 15 years decided to file resignation and ended her 18 years of tenure in DSI (sister company of BT&T), I was in DSI for 10 years and during that years we became close friends. I remember the days when we walk all the way from White Plains to Greenmeadows and through Libis area. We always walk in the afternoon as this way is a shortcut road to our terminal area, we laughed, eat barbeque or anything, blurted out sad and tearful moments, shared funny and happy times and talked about everything under the sun (if it’s not raining lol!). We also used to go to market after this walking, the vendors used to call us sisters as we always go there together. This stopped when my boss transferred me to his other company-BT&T. But when she managed the construction of the twin building of our office we see each other everyday again and that made us happy. Today she emailed her resignation letter and informed our boss that she’s leaving country to be with her husband who’s currently working in Eastimor. I’m a little sad that I’ll not be seeing her everyday now but extremely glad that she has finally got the courage to decide to be with Jhun which I think would make her more happy. I would surely miss her!

Moments with Ruth

It’s the 10th birthday of Julianne Ruth, my first baby whom I named after my father (Julian) and from the book of Ruth which I admire for her unwavering faith and loyalty. She’s one of the admirable character in the bible. I derived all my kids’ names from the Old Testament because I believe that the name somehow affect the character of the person.

When I gave birth to her I’ve undergone two delivery procedures, first attempt was normal delivery then I ended up in an operating room – a caesarean delivery due to small pelvic bone. I was awake when Ruth came out of my womb just a little bit dizzy but conscious enough to see her normal, healthy and pretty. She has the look of a ‘bumbay’ with deep set eyes and bedimpled cheeks. She got the looks of my Turkish looking hubby. As they always say the first born normally gets more from the father. True because my other two younger kids took after me.

We didn’t plan anything for her birthday she just told me she wants us to take them out in the mall, play games etc. So we just bought her a cake, prepared some food – spaghetti, puto, palabok and their favorite fried chicken. We had a breakfast birthday celebration. We decided to go to the opening hours of the malls to avoid the crowd, the kids were very happy hopping in from one game to another in Tom’s World. I was the photographer while their daddy assisted them in all their games. When we finally arrived home she embraced me and whispered ‘Thanks Mom for a great day and kissed me, I kissed her back and told her ‘ Love you baby’.

Fun Ranch Moments

We were heading home after a whole day fellowship in Cubao when the kids asked us (my hubby and me) if we could have snack at SM Hypermart in Pasig City. I agreed and also let them see the Tiendesitas where you can stroll through tiangge and eat in the big open area surrounded by food stores, wide variety of seafoods, meat, veggies, fruits and drinks to choose from. After the snack at Go Nuts and grocering at SM we entered Fun Ranch - place for kids where there's a huge playplace. They encouraged my kids to enter the place and told me that they're letting the kids play without fee because the birthday party held there just finished and they will close in about 40 minutes. Josh, Gen and Ruth were very happy that we dropped by there. They rounded the big place and played there for about an hour with their daddy inside to watch them. They let parents go with the toddlers to ensure safety. In about an hour after they were smiling endlessly - tired but happy.

Gardening Moments

When I was in my teens I grew my own roses and sunflowers but as years go by I never had the time to attend to my gardening hobby. I really missed those years, I always remind myself that I'll give some time for my garden when rainy season comes 'coz it's the best time of the year. Last May I went to Laguna to attend the wedding of my niece and I took the chance to get some flowers from my cousin who has a green thumb in gardening and she just let me pick what I want. Because I had the liberty of choosing I picked the good ones. I've arranged them all at the back of the Tamaraw Fx and squeezed myself in between my plants. After more than 2 months I was so happy because my flowering plants bloomed nicely. That put a smile :-) on my face.

Stay Young

There are many television shows that discusses how we can look younger than our age. Many people will turn to age defying products which is oftentimes expensive but affordable to those not really so mindful of the price, some resort to herbal food supplements which are good also and those who really wanted an instant remedy to look young is through surgical method. As a busy working mom and a born-again Christian I have nothing against those mentioned ways but I believe strongly that there are more ways than one in staying young. These lists are great because it will cost us nothing but patience and perseverance. Here are some tips:
1. Throw out nonessential numbers - your age and weight.

2. Keep only cheerful friends so you'll also be cheerful.

3. Keep learning: Never let your brain become idle, Try to study internet, computer, baking, cooking (these are all my hobbies lol!)

4. Enjoy the simple things. Simplicity is beauty (Title of my favorite book when I was in 3rd year highschool in CCS, do you still remember Jenny!)

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and Lots of time with HIM/HER.

6. The tears happen: Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourself. LIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love: Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, to parks, to beach resorts, even to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

So friends if you don't have enough money and you want to look, feel and stay as young as your heart, please take note of these guidelines.

Smile :-)
